This article is a basic comparison about series and parallel electrical circuits.

We have already discussed Resistance calculation in series and parallel electric circuits and we have derived two formula from that discussion : In Series Electric Circuit
REq=R1+R2+R3+....+Rn In Parallel Electric Circuit
1/R=1/R1+1/R2+....+1/Rn In current article we will compare these series and parallel circuits.

Series and Parallel Circuits : A Basic Comparison

  • Current Path : In series circuit there is only one path for current to flow in the circuit and that is through all the resistances but in parallel circuits the number of total oaths is equal to the number of resistances connected in parallel.
  • Equivalent Resistances :This is already given above as : In Series Electric Circuit REq=R1+R2+R3+....+Rn In Parallel Electric Circuit
  • Magnitude of Current : In series circuit same current will flow through all resistances while in parallel circuit the magnitude of current through any individual resistance will depend upon the resistance of that resistance and other resistances.
  • Electrical Quantity Division : In series electric circuit voltage is divided while in parallel circuit current is divided across various resistances.
  • Magnitude of Electric Quantity :More the resistance more will be voltage drop in series circuit and less the resistance more will be the current through the resistance in parallel circuit.
  • Total Resistance : In series electric circuit total resistance is always greater that that of all individual resistances while in parallel electric circuit total resistance is smaller than the sum of all resistances if all resistances are greater than one.
This was the comparison of series and parallel electric circuits, I hope this will help you to differentiate series and parallel electric circuits.
